Hunan
Zhangjiajie in northwestern Hunan is known for its quartz-sandstone pillars — over three thousand of them, appearing and disappearing in cloud, the inspiration for Avatar's floating mountains. Cable cars, the Bailong elevator and shuttle buses keep the walking manageable. Two hours west, Fenghuang old town sits on the Tuo River.

How much walking is there in Zhangjiajie?
Cable cars, the Bailong elevator and shuttle buses cover most of it, so elderly guests manage well. We put you on a vehicle wherever possible.
How do I get there from Hong Kong or Taiwan?
Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport has flights to and from Hong Kong (seasonal). Taiwan travellers can connect via Changsha, Guangzhou or Xiamen.
Is the Tianmen glass walkway scary?
It hugs the cliff with a long drop below, but it is wide and railed. If you are afraid of heights, an inner mountain path is available instead.
